Despite my sharp cut in online shopping, given the carbon footprint and extra warming effects of air freight, Kowtow is a label that I have been finding excuses to shop at. It is one of the very few ethical fashion houses – second to honest by. I personally think – that promise a look good and do good factor.

Certified fair-trade organic clothing that is ethically and sustainably made from seed to garment.” Having said that on their website, the New Zealand-based label endeavours to educate the message of fair trade and trust me they are doing it well. Kowtow uses only 100% certified organic cotton, which means you can remain carefree about what literally gets under your skin. Its factories in Kolkata are ones that work only with organic cotton and responsible dying techniques and products that meet the Global Organic Textile Standards, so the dyes are free from hazardous chemicals. Apparently the child labour, poor working conditions and exploitation are absent in such factories, according to the policies stated on their website. Great if the brand could speak more about auditing, even better if they can pursue an association with ILO.
But anyway, it still sounds good so far. Their minimal dresses are still worth your investment to support organic cotton going mainstream, and the dresses do promise great style.
